The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea has a reputation for excellence in public service and is recognised as having one of the best resourced and most successful education services in England. Children at Kensington and Chelsea schools achieve some of the best results in the country, including the best value added at Key Stage 2 in England in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
The range and diversity of our school population is well served by our four secondary schools, twenty-six primary schools, four nursery schools, one special school, one hospital school and a pupil referral unit.
High standards are achieved in our schools through excellent teaching, high expectations, a broad and rich curriculum and the outstanding leadership of our headteachers and their leadership teams. Considerable emphasis is placed on partnership with parents and governors. While our achievements are considerable, we are not complacent and seek to develop our provision and practice.
We are ambitious for the children and young people who live or study in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. We are proud of our high educational standards and we intend to improve children's attainment even further. We want all children to receive excellent teaching, a broad, rich and enjoyable curriculum, the promotion of healthy lifestyles, a positive learning environment and a range of additional support. We believe that all children in our schools should do well a recent study by End Child Poverty names Kensington and Chelsea as the borough where children who receive free school meals do best in the country in their GCSE results with 59 per cent of them achieving five A* to C grades.
Both inside and outside the school environment we want Kensington and Chelsea to be a great place to be a child. That means being a place where children are safe, healthy and happy. It also means being a great place: to play and to have fun; to go to school and to study; to be young and grow to adulthood; to be a parent and to bring up a family; and a place where everyone has the opportunity to continue learning throughout their life.
We believe that this will only happen with strong families at the heart of strong communities. This embraces families in all their variety and networks friendship and support for those separated from their families. Strong families both contribute to and depend on strong communities. We want the connection between parents and guardians and the schools their children attend to be strong as we know that this is one of the best ways to ensure that a child achieves their full potential. |
