Independent Learning is the term that is used for homework at Chelsea Academy, in order to reflect the fact that studies undertaken by students outside of lesson time may take place within the Academy or at other locations, not just at home.
At Chelsea Academy, teachers take care to set challenging and relevant Independent Learning tasks. There is a clear link between academic attainment and the time and effort that students put into their Independent Learning. Each half term, students and parents receive progress reports, which include a grade for Independent Learning in every subject.
To help parents track independent learning the Academy uses Show My Homework. This allows parents to track all the independent learning that has been set. To view the Chelsea Academy Show My Homework page click here. If you would like to download the Show My Homework app then go to the Apple App Store or the Google Play store and search for ‘Show My Homework’, this app will then automatically insert your son or daughter’s independent learning into your phone calendar and send you reminders about they have to complete each evening.
Students can expect to receive 5 hours per subject per week. The time spent on Independent Learning in Key Stage 5 should include wider reading around the topics being studied and also newspapers and other literature which will need to be called upon in university interviews.
