All of our pupils receive career advice, guidance and opportunities throughout their academic life. This page outlines each of the milestones along this journey.

Year 7

  • ‘The Real Game’ during PD lessons – students role-play as single adults in occupational roles. They see how schoolwork relates to occupational choices and therefore to lifestyle and income.

Year 8

  • Exploring skills, talents and interests in relation to choosing learning paths and routes at Key Stage 4, Key Stage 5 and Higher Education during PD lessons
  • The world of work: Independent Career research project; fair work / fair trade case study during PD lessons
  • Options conference and parents evening
  • Options interviews

Year 9

  • 1-2-1 guidance for selected students from a qualified adviser
  • Finance, enterprise, university budget, working persons budget, graduates budget, employee rights, and rights and responsibilities during PD lessons

Year 10

  • All students receive a 1-2-1 guidance interview from a qualified adviser with a follow-up action plan
  • Further 1-2-1 guidance for selected students from a qualified adviser
  • World of work revisited: post 16 pathways; post 18 pathways, applying for jobs, CVs and application forms, personal statement writing during PD lessons
  • Work experience
  • Work experience evaluation
  • Opportunity for on-going work experience placements

Year 11

  • Mock interviews, student finance, personal budgeting, and managing stress during PD lessons
  • Connexions run 2 PD lessons
  • Targeted small group sessions with to discuss vocational routes including Apprenticeships and college applications
  • Assemblies relating to Sixth Form application
  • Sixth form open evenings
  • Opportunity for on-going work experience placements
  • Work-related enrichment opportunities

Year 12

  • Study skills and careers day, including withdrawal from the main session for half hourly 1-2-1s from a qualified adviser with a follow-up action plan
  • Visits to universities
  • Higher education fair
  • Visiting speakers from universities as well as a programme of lectures
  • Opportunity for on-going work experience placements
  • Work-related enrichment opportunities

Year 13

  • Visiting speakers from universities as well as a programme of lectures
  • Specialised Oxbridge support programme, including advice on extended reading, discussion tutorials and interview preparation
  • Opportunity for on-going work experience placements
  • Work-related enrichment opportunities
