As usual, where possible, revision materials will be on Show My Homework, otherwise they will be in photocopied booklets. If there are any issues accessing these, please do get in touch with classroom teachers straight away.

Key Stage 3 Certificate Graduation

Students in Year 8 will be our first cohort to graduate formally from the new KS3 3Cert Curriculum. As a result, we will be holding a graduation for them during Period 5 on the 18th July. They will receive a final certificate of achievement with all of their grades detailed from their subjects. This does mean that you will not receive a progress check until this date. We will also be making available their I Can Statement achievements, available to read online in due course.

The importance of reading

The famous screenwriter and journalist Nora Ephron once said, “Reading is everything. Reading makes me feel like I have accomplished something, learned something, become a better person. Reading makes me smarter. Reading gives me something to talk about later on”. At Chelsea Academy, we share the view that reading is of vital importance to the development of our young people in terms of the impact it has across their curriculum in improving their vocabulary, widening their world view, and giving them an opportunity to reflect and form their own views across a range of themes. To that end, we will be providing a reading list for every subject in the next CA Update, especially with an eye on the upcoming summer holidays. Studies have shown that students who read during the long summer break continue to make educational progress, so we would strongly encourage you to promote reading with your son or daughter during the holiday period.

Changes: we want to hear from you!

We are looking at what you might want to see on progress checks when we send them home. We are looking to change the SELF Learner Strength and Learner Action to information on Behaviour, Effort and IL. We are also proposing that we cease using Show My Homework as a tool for independent learning. It is a very expensive resource and we have an internal resource called Smart Homework that we are considering. It has the same functionality as Show My Homework, but is a free resource. If you have any feelings towards these two items that you would like us to take into consideration, please email me on sam.ainsworth@chelsea-academy.org. I will be arranging a parents forum in due course to discuss these changes, should you be interested.
